U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) last Friday announced $796,470 for fire departments in 5 communities across Southeast Michigan to purchase new equipment. These grants come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.
• The Canton Township Fire Department will receive $129,163 to implement a health care and wellness program to keep firefighters safe.
• The Dearborn Fire Department will receive $350,375 for training and equipment.
• The Hazel Park Fire Department will receive $63,795 to purchase a Source Capture Exhaust System.
• The Dearborn Heights Fire Department will receive $154,545 to purchase a Source Capture Exhaust System.
• The Madison Heights Fire Department will receive $98,589 to implement a health care and wellness program to keep firefighters safe.
“Our firefighters in Southeast Michigan put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities,” said Stabenow. “These new resources will give our first responders the equipment they need to better serve the public and do their jobs more safely and effectively.”
“It is critical that firefighters and first responders have the resources necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Peters, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. “This grant will help ensure that first responders across Southeast Michigan have the equipment and support they need to respond to emergencies and continue protecting the families in their communities.”
