Attorneys take a look into administration's China policy
The Practising Law Institute (PLI) will present "The China Initiative: Where Does the Biden-Harris Administration Go with This Enforcement Strategy?" as a live webcast on Wednesday, August 18, beginning at 1 p.m.
Beginning in the prior administration, the U.S. Department of Justice began its China Initiative, an effort that targeted economic espionage occurring in the United States that benefitted China. In many cases, U.S.-based educational institutions, Chinese nationals and companies, and organizations receiving financial support from Chinese interests were caught up in these investigations. The criminal enforcement actions were coupled with strategic use of sanctions against targeted individuals and organizations.
By every measure it appears that the Biden-Harris administration has continued this endeavor providing the perfect time to review the investigations and prosecutions done to date with an eye toward its potential future direction. Webinar faculty members Stephen L. Hill Jr. and Sara M. Holzschuh of Dentons US LLP will present a discussion that includes:
- An overview of the initiative's origin and historical targets.
- What federal statutes and regulations are being utilized by enforcement entities under the initiative?
- A case study that walks attendees through the early stages of an investigation and that explores opportunities to identify and address the legal risks associated with the Chinese Initiative before landing in enforcement crosshairs.
The intended audience for the webinar include in-house counsel, outside attorneys, accountants, education sector, financial and other allied professionals interested in learning more about the China Initiative
Course materials will be available to attendees prior to the start of the program. Cost for the webcast is $299. To register or for additional information, visit www.pli.edu and click on "programs."
