Webinar looks at a 'Trial Attorney in Public Policy and Regulatory World'
The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) will host a webinar titled "A Court Room Trial Attorney in the Public Policy and Regulatory World" on Wednesday, October 27, from noon to 1 p.m.
Challenging state action-and private litigation against the backdrop of state administrative decisions-comes with its own set of rules. What are the core concepts to understand? And what are the procedural missteps to be avoided? This session will discuss what administrative and regulatory litigation with the State of Michigan and its agencies can look like and will examine the key Administrative Procedures Act concepts and Court of Claims Act procedures that attorneys should know.
Speaking at the online event will be Zachary C. Larsen of Clark Hill PLC. He represents companies in regulatory and environmental litigation and counsels industrial and agricultural businesses through compliance and permitting concerns.
From defending disaster-related lawsuits like the Flint Water and Edenville Dam class actions to filing industrywide administrative challenges or bringing remediation cost recovery actions, Larsen has litigated some of Michigan's largest environmental disputes. He served for eight years as an assistant attorney general for the State of Michigan, including in the Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture Division.
Though Larsen principally represents clients in environmental matters, he also draws on his years with the State of Michigan to help businesses navigate state tax and other regulatory compliance problems and has litigated significant business, sales, and use tax appeals, insurance receivership disputes, liquor control commission appeals, and Freedom of Information Act suits.
Registration for the webinar is free for MDTC members and $25 for non-members. To register, visit www.mdtc.org and click on "MDTC Events" under "Press Center." Anyone with questions can all MDTC at 517-627-3745.
