Mediation for business disputes focus of ACC-MI webinar, Jan. 19
The Association of Corporate Counsel, Michigan Chapter, will present an educational webinar on "As Courts Continue Remote Proceedings, Private Mediation Increasingly Presents the More Efficient and Effective Alternative for Resolving Business Disputes" sponsored by JAMS. The online program will take place Wednesday, January 19, from 1 to 2 p.m.
In the era of COVID and remote work, remote court proceedings present logistical challenges. When business disputes arise, moving forward is paramount. Private mediation can be a very effective tool in resolving these disputes in an alternative way. Attendees can learn more about it in this discussion featuring speakers:
- Lita Masini Popke, JAMS arbitrator, mediator, discovery facilitator, special case evaluator and retired Wayne County Circuit Court judge
- Ann Marie Uetz, partner and vice-chair of the national litigation department of Foley & Lardner LLP
Together, they will discuss the efficiencies of private mediation such as control over the process and engagement, how to best position parties for resolution, and how to best get aligned in an alternative dispute resolution practice.
In this session, participants will learn:
-The efficiencies of the process (AMU and LMP)
-Its limitations (e.g., need consenting parties, and no injunctive or other relief which only courts can enforce) (AMU)
-How to best position parties for resolution (LMP)
Time will be reserved for questions and answers following the presentation.
