The Oakland County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications for the newly established Board of Directors for the Oakland County Land Bank Authority. The land bank was established through a resolution approved by the Board of Commissioners at its June 23 meeting.
“Oakland County's Land Bank Board will be critical to establishing the authority in our community,” Commissioner Kristen Nelson (D-Waterford Twp.) said. “I look forward to helping build this initiative for our county.”
The Board is accepting applications for the following volunteer positions:
• One Oakland County township official with economic development, housing, planning or real estate experience
• One Oakland County city official with economic development, housing, planning or real estate experience
• One Oakland County resident with economic development, housing, planning or real estate experience
Those interested in applying can do so at https://forms.oakgov.com/79, by choosing “Other” and entering “Land Bank Authority” under the Board/Committee/Commission selection dropdown. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 21. The Oakland County Land Bank Authority Board will meet regularly as determined by the group. All meetings will comply with the Open Meetings Act.
Land banks acquire title to properties—most commonly through the tax foreclosure process—and transfer the properties to new, responsible owners in a manner consistent with community-based plans that also return the properties to the tax roll. For land bank properties, additional resources and funds may be available to help with infrastructure, roads and utility costs for economic development projects, including affordable and market-rate housing along with commercial activities.
