The American Bar Association Fund for Justice and Education will celebrate the 2022 ABA Giving Day on Thursday, October 27, to promote programs that help communities build a more democratic, equitable and just society.
Held in conjunction with the National Celebration of Pro Bono, Oct. 23-39, which recognizes the collective power of free legal services, ABA Giving Day seeks to engage ABA members, volunteers and donors to promote civic education and voting rights, advocate for environmental and social justice, improve access to justice and uphold the rule of law. This is the third year the ABA is sponsoring a day of giving.
This year’s theme is “Advancing Democracy, Equity, & Justice.” To build on last year’s momentum, the goal for this year is more than 1,000 donors and over $300,000 in contributions.
Donors can select from among 17 ABA programs, including the ABA/FJE Annual Fund, the Commission on Immigration, Commission on Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity, Commission on Homelessness & Poverty, Free Legal Answers and the new Cornerstones of Democracy initiative. ABA President Deborah Enix-Ross said ABA Giving Day is essential to providing legal solutions to advance democracy, equity and justice. “Contributions from ABA members and the public help uphold the rights of the most vulnerable, protect the rule of law and ensure a more inclusive justice system now and in the future,” she said. “Most importantly, donations empower attorneys, local civic leaders and community members to be bold, purposeful advocates for justice.”
ABA Giving Day was launched in 2020 to provide donors an opportunity to support programs that countered the impact of COVID-19 and championed racial justice across America. Eight ABA programs were featured and $115,000 from more than 300 donors was raised. The 2021 campaign, which promoted the theme “Community First” to support the people and the programs that bring communities together, highlighted 16 programs and raised over $252,000 from more than 730 donors.
