The Energy, Sustainability, and Environmental Law Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association will present “Corporate Sustainability and Social Initiatives: What You and Your Clients Need to Know” as an online webinar on Wednesday, March 15, from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
With the growth of the world economy (and social media), citizens, countries, and even corporations see how their purchasing and manufacturing choices impact finite natural resources, the extraction of minerals from conflict zones, and income equality. As a result there is mounting pressure from various parts of society to try to curb these apparent adverse impacts through social media campaigns, shareholder resolutions, and legislation. In response, international and local corporations are beginning to implement
Environmental, Social and Governance policies to address these impacts. However, some are challenging these policies as being contrary to the main goal of corporate policy—maximizing shareholder profits.
This webinar will provide a background understanding of what ESG is, why and how corporations are implementing ESG policies, and the legal case for and against ESG initiatives.
Speaking at the webinar will be Kirk Caron, director of KPMG’s ESG and Climate Advisory Group; and Jacob Hupart of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo PC.
Cost for the webinar is $35 for OCBA members, $45 for non-members, $25 for ESEL Committee members, $15 for OCBA new lawyers and paralegals, and OCBA student members can attend for free.
