Last Tuesday, May 2, Macomb County Circuit Court Visiting Judge James R. Chylinski sentenced 45 year old Shannon Jones in his criminal sexual conduct case. On March 28, a Macomb County jury convicted Jones, from Roseville, on eight counts in a criminal sexual conduct case after a four day jury trial conducted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Lozen and former Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Molly Zappitell.
From September 2018 to December 2018, Jones lived with the victim’s mother. During that time, the defendant sexually assaulted two minor girls, ages six and eight. Afterwards, the defendant fled to Alabama. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office agreed to extradite the defendant in December 2020. The U.S. Marshalls apprehended Jones in Birmingham, Alabama in July 2021 to stand trial in Macomb County.
The Macomb County jury convicted Jones in 35 minutes of five counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree with a person under thirteen, defendant over seventeen (25 year mandatory minimum, up to life felony,) two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree person under thirteen, defendant over seventeen (15 year felony,) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor (93-day misdemeanor.)
On counts one through three of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, Chylinkski sentenced Jones to 30-60 years. On the fourth count of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree the judge sentenced Jones to parolable life. The judge sentenced Jones to 25-50 years in prison on the last count of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree to be served consecutively after counts one through four. On the two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree, Jones was sentenced to 10-15 years. On contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a 93 day misdemeanor, Jones received credit for time served. In total, Jones will spend a minimum of 55 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
“I would like to thank Judge Chylinski for making sure this predator is in prison for the rest of his life so our children are safe. Thank you to the Roseville Police Department for investigating this case and the U.S. Marshals for returning the defendant back to Macomb County to stand trial,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
