Sixteen years ago, the State Bar of Michigan designated October as Pro Bono Month. Today, the goal continues to promote pro bono events held during Pro Bono Month and to raise public awareness of the need for pro bono legal services throughout Michigan.
Many legal services organizations participate in October as Pro Bono Month by organizing legal clinics, pro bono attorney trainings, law school pro bono pledges, award ceremonies, and other events offering pro bono opportunities for attorneys wanting to help low-income Michigan individuals and families in need of legal assistance.
Attorneys looking to get involved with a pro bono event during Pro Bono Month should check out SBM’s A Lawyer Helps “Legal Clinics & Events Calendar” for events planned during Pro Bono Month at www.michbar.org/alawyerhelps/home. Events are frequently added to the calendar, so attorneys should check back often.
Donate to the ATJ Campaign: When you make a gift to the ATJ Campaign, 100% of your donation for statewide current operations will be distributed to support civil legal aid to the poor throughout Michigan. Donate online at https://e.michbar.org/Donations/ATJ?ID=ATJ.
Any legal services providers planning Pro Bono Month events can register events with SBM and the events will be posted and promoted on SBM’s A Lawyer Helps “Legal Clinics & Events Calendar.” Register events at https://michbar.wufoo.com/forms/october-is-pro-bono-month-2023.
Anyone with questions or who would like additional information may contact Robert Mathis, SBM’s Justice Initiatives Counsel, at rmathis@michbar.org.
