Obituary: James Edward Logan


James (Jim) Edward Logan, 78, peacefully passed away on December 3.

Logan was born the youngest of two children in Detroit on October 21, 1945. After graduating from Eastern High School in Lansing, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served in many places around the world, including Italy, where he married his first wife, Adriana (Arthur) Sherwood, the mother of his two daughters. After his service, Logan returned to Michigan where he started a 20-year career with AAA Michigan. It was at AAA where he eventually met his wife, Debbie Logan. They were married on April 15, 1983.

In 1988, Logan left AAA as the company’s bodily injury claim manager and began his second career in the structured settlements industry as regional vice president at Kenneth H. Wells & Associates, Inc. In 1999, he founded his own national settlement consulting firm, James E. Logan & Associates, Ltd. He took great pride in resolving injury claims for his clients and bringing financial certainty and security to the seriously injured and their families through sound settlement planning. Logan earned his Certified Structured Settlement Consultant (CSSC) professional designation in 1993 from the University of Notre Dame in conjunction with the National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA). He served on NSSTA’s Board of Directors and was chairman of the NSSTA PAC Board.

Logan was preceded in death by his mother, Alice M. Ramsey, and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Deborah (Debbie) Logan; his two daughters, Christine Logan (Daniel Goodmann) and Susan (Scott) Hiipakka; and his grandchildren, Joe and Sabrina Garascia, Abby and Alex Hiipakka, and Joe and Julia Goodmann. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Carter; his sisters-in-law Donna (Russ) Vorhees and Tina Sceglio (Mark) Williams; and nephews, Michael and Spencer Bandy.

A service will be held on Monday, December 18, at Hodges Funeral Home in Naples, Florida.  Burial will take place in Michigan sometime in the spring. Logan will be laid to rest at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Tunnel to Towers or Shriners Hospital.
