Commissioner Angela Powell (D-Pontiac) has been named to serve as the Oakland County Board of Commissioners majority caucus chair. Powell represents District 9, which includes portions of Bloomfield Township and the City of Pontiac. She was first elected to the Board of Commissioners in November 2018.
“I’m honored to have the confidence of my colleagues to help lead them as we try to bring solutions to all Oakland County residents,” Powell said. “I look forward to serving in this position and supporting our constituents in a new way.”
The selection was unanimous among Powell’s Democratic colleagues. As majority caucus chair, she will lead and preside over regular meetings of the Board’s Democratic members.
“Angela Powell embodies the values of our Democratic Majority, and as a result was our unanimous choice to lead our Democratic Caucus,” said Board Chair David T. Woodward. “Together we will work to expand equality and economic opportunity for all of Oakland County.”
Outside of her work as a commissioner, which includes serving as majority vice chair of the Public Health & Safety Committee and a member of the Finance Committee, Powell is a small business owner. In addition, she serves on numerous community boards associated with the county and her district. Powell earned a B.A. in English from Oakland University.
Powell replaces former commissioner Janet Jackson, who was elected to serve Southfield as its city clerk in November 2023.
