Eastpointe man sentenced in drunk driving death

On Tuesday, 42-year-old Eric Compton of Eastpointe was sentenced by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Diane Druzinski for his conviction in a drunk driving incident.

On Wednesday, August 15, 2021, Eric Compton was driving under the influence of alcohol and struck a motorcycle, carrying two passengers.  One passenger died at the scene and the other passenger was critically injured.

On Monday, November 20, 2023, a Macomb County jury convicted Compton of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High BAC Causing Death with a Prior Conviction (20 year felony) and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High BAC Causing Serious Injury with a Prior Conviction (10 year felony) after a three-day jury trial by Assistant Prosecutor Steve Fox.

On Tuesday, Compton was sentenced to 20-40 years for his conviction of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High BAC Causing Death with a Prior Conviction and 9-20 years for his conviction of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a High BAC Causing Serious Injury with a Prior Conviction.  He was sentenced as a habitual third offender.

This sends a clear message that drunk driving will not be tolerated in Macomb County. We are committed to keeping our streets safer for everyone,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
