The Galesburg-Augusta Lady Rams outscored Delton-Kellogg in every quarter en-route to a 56-34 win in the opening game of the District #79 Tournament game held at Kalamazoo Christian High School on March 4th.
G-A scored the first eight points of the game on two 3-point baskets by M ya Erskin and a Jaidyn Klimp inside basket. Delton would make three of its seventeen shots in the quarter and Klimp would swish all four of her free throw attempts giving the Rams a 12 to 6 lead.
The second quarter was a mirror image of the first. Erskin hit two more 3-pointers, Klimp dropped in a basket and a free throw and Rhyann Wilson hit two jumpers in the lane. The Panthers scored seven points with 2 baskets and three free throws. The teams went to the locker room with the Rams holding a 25-13 lead.
G-A extended its lead to nineteen points in the third quarter. Klimp scored 7 points in the period, Wilson and Grace Gibson picked up four points each and Maureen McBride, Ellesa Callender and Grace Gibson each scored a basket.
In the fourth quarter Klimp netted 7 points, giving her a game high 23 points to go with 11 rebounds. Gibson and McBride each scored an inside basket and Holley Coburn made it into the scoring column when she converted an offensive rebound into a short bank shot.
G-A shot 41% from inside the arc and 25% from the outside. Unofficially, Delton made 13 of 58 shots for 22%.
Erskin, who knocked down four three-point baskets on 4-for-8 shooting from the arc, added 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.
If the Rams prevail over Kalamazoo Christian March 6, tbe team will play the winner of the Hackett-Comstock game (also played March 6) in the District Finals on Friday, March 8th at 7 p.m.
