Most races for city, village, and township seats were uncontested, however there was one contested write-in race in the City of Galesburg that the County is not revealing the outcome of until the Board of Canvassers finalizes vote totals, which by law is 14 days after the election.
Huge Turnout in Climax Township; All Incumbents Win Untested Races
Over 70 percent of Climax Township registered voters cast ballots in the November 5 general election.
Overall, 1469 of the 1985 registered voters (74 percent) in Climax Township cast votes in the November 5 election. Clerk Marcia Lewis said there were 824 votes cast in the precinct, 523 absent voter ballots, and 122 early voting ballots.
All incumbents won uncontested races for four year seats.
Supervisor Trent Piper received 1,140 votes and there were 29 write-in votes for the position. Clerk Sarah DeBoer received 1,137 votes and there were 17 write-in votes.
Treasurer Steven Walman received 1,136 votes and there were 13 write-in votes. Richard Thierjung received 1,051 votes and Cheryl Bates received 564 votes and there were 13 write-in votes.
City of Galesburg
In the City of Galesburg, all incumbents and one write-in candidate were elected to four-year seats, however the county is not revealing which write-in candidate is the winner until the Board of Canvassers finalizes the election.
Current Mayor Linda Marble received 609 votes and there were 47 write-in votes for the position.
There were four candidates running for three City Commission seats. Roger Frazee, with 477 votes, and Glen Hawes, with 468 votes, were elected. Anthony Tipken and Toni Caswell ran as write-in candidates. According to the Kalamazoo County election results web page there were 94 write-in votes cast.
There were 896 ballots cast in the precinct, with 517 voting in person and 279 voting absentee. The early voting vote totals were not available. The City has 1604 registered voters.
Village of Augusta
In the Village of Augusta all races were uncontested.
John E. Thomas received 291 votes for a four-year term for village president and there were 17 write-in votes for the position.
Terry L. Burghdoff, with 223 votes, H. Valerie Silkworth with 205 votes, and Christina L. Thomas, with 240 votes, were elected to four-year terms and there were 19 write-in votes. Andrew Ackley received 289 votes and was elected to a partial term ending 12/31/2026. There were nine write-in votes for the partial term seat.
Charleston Township
All positions on the Charleston Township Board ballot were uncontested and all incumbents retained four-year seats.
Current Supervisor Jerry VanderRoest received 899 votes and there were 57 write-in votes.
Current Clerk Alese LePert received 636 votes and there were 26 write-in votes.
Incumbent Treasurer Kim Balkema received 923 votes and there were 24 write-in votes.
Trustee Joshua Balkema received 831 votes, trustee Brian Moravek received 439 votes and there were 16 write-in votes for trustee positions.
Charter Township of Pavilion
Seven candidates running unopposed for four-year seats were elected in Charter Township of Pavilion.
Incumbent Supervisor John Speeter, received 1,785 votes with 48 write-in votes for the position.
Incumbent clerk Karen Emily Siegwart received 1,787 votes and there were 40 write-in votes.
Current Treasurer Robyn Maxson received 1,777 votes and there were 39 write-in votes.
Incumbents Greg Thomas, with 1,489 votes, Dan Frizzo, with 1,493 votes, David Steffens, with 1,451 votes and Edward Cagney, with 1,570 votes, all retained their seats. There were 75 write-in votes for trustee positions.
Wakeshma Township
All five candidates on the ballot in Wakeshma Township running unopposed were elected to four-year positions.
Incumbent Supervisor Jason Gatlin received 583 votes and there were 12 write-in votes for the position. Incumbent Treasurer Leanne Munn received 575 votes and there were 16 write-in votes. Deputy Clerk Michael Fry was elected to a four-year term with 425 votes and there were 14 write-in votes.
Incumbent trustees Barbara Thole, with 488 votes and Trevor Bennett, with 560 votes, were elected to four-year seats. There were 20 write-in votes for trustee seats.
