As part of its “Court Community Connections” program, the Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in People of MI v Evan Andrew Oslund, Supreme Court Case No. 165544 at Southwestern Michigan College – Dale A. Lyons Theatre, 58900 Cherry Grove Rd. in Dowagiac, on Wednesday, April 24, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (arguments will begin promptly at 10 a.m.). The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians will lead the community activity with a drum ceremony. Additionally, case briefing and debriefing sessions led by Supreme Court Chief Commissioner Daniel C. Brubaker will be held before and after the oral arguments.
In addition to hearing oral arguments at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, Justices and staff travel to communities statewide as part of the “Court Community Connections” program, which the Court started as a public education program aimed primarily at high school students. This will be the 29th time the court has traveled to hear a case at another location.
Along with Michigan Supreme Court justices, Cass County judges, and Pokagon Band of Potawatomi tribal judges, students from the following schools will be participating in the 29th “Court Community Connections” program:
• Buchanan High School
• Calvary Bible Academy
• Dowagiac High School
• Marcellus High School
• Southwestern Michigan College
• Volinia High School
Online streaming of oral arguments and other hearings will start shortly before hearings begin; audio will be muted until justices take their seats. Streaming will begin only while the court is in session and on the bench.
