G-A Bands performing at Detroit Tigers Game, April 18

By Bruce Rolfe

The Galesburg-Augusta High School and Middle School bands have been invited to perform prior to the Detroit Tigers baseball game at Comerica Park April 18 at 1:10 p.m.

The combined high school and middle school band will perform a short set of pep tunes on the plaza in front of the ballpark by the big Tiger statue, and the high school band will perform the National Anthem on the field.

G-A Band Director Scottie Walker said there is a total of 69 students in grades 7-12 that will be participating in the performance.

Walker said the high school band will be performing the same arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner the band typically plays before football games.

Walker said he reached out to the Detroit Tigers organization several months ago to initiate the process.

The G-A band director said the Tigers had a few games available for school groups to perform the National Anthem, so he submitted a recording and the Tigers informed him the band was approved to perform on April 18.

“This is a very special opportunity for our band students. It will be an honor and a thrill to play at an iconic venue, in front of a big crowd for a Major League Baseball game. This will be a truly memorable experience and we are excited for the opportunity to represent G-A at Comerica Park,” said Walker.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to join the G-A bands at the ballpark on April 18. G-A group tickets (in Sections 147-150) are $24 and can be purchased online at https://fevo-enterprise.com/event/Galesburgaugusta. $5 from every ticket sold will be donated back to the G-A Band Program.
