Derricka Fleming, 25, of Clinton Township pled no contest Monday to an involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of her son.
?Last January 22, according to the Macomb County prosecutor’s offic, Fleming left her apartment after putting her son to bed. Early the next morning, the five-year-old victim exited the apartment and was found in a nearby park. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Fleming is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, June 12 by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Kathryn Viviano.
"Today's no contest plea brings some measure of closure, but it can never fill the void left by the loss of a precious life. Our hearts ache for the innocent child whose potential was tragically cut short," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
