Virtual Planners Gathering to look at ‘When Regional Malls and Big Box Stores Go Dark

Oakland County Planning, Zoning, and Land Use will conduct a Virtual Planners Gathering on “When Regional Malls and Big Box Stores Go Dark” Wednesday, June 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. via Zoom.

Regional malls and big box stores can be all the rage…until they aren’t. Attendees will hear a tale of how two communities addressed the impacts and implications of large retail centers going dark. Participants will hear about Southfield’s path to redeveloping Northland Mall and Waterford Township’s road to the reuse of a long-vacant Kmart center.

Speaking at the program will be Jeffrey Polkowski, director of Development Services, Waterford Township; and Terry Croad, director of planning, City of Southfield.

Anyone with questions should contact Jim Schafer at schaferj@oakgov.com or 248-858-2033.
