Husband pleads no contest as charged in domestic violence incident

A 38-year-old Detroit resident pled no contest, which is treated like a guilty plea in criminal court, to domestic violence.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Tony Ricardo Saunders II, hit his wife multiple times in the face, chest and arms at their home in Detroit.  He was charged with Domestic Violence, a 93-day misdemeanor. Saunders was a Wayne County employee at the time of the incident so the Michigan Attorney General’s Office referred the case to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, at 9 a.m. in 36th District Court by District Court Judge E. Lynise Bryant.

"We take matters of domestic violence seriously. When someone pleads no contest to harming their spouse, it is not just a legal issue, but a profound violation of trust and safety within the home. Our priority is ensuring that justice is served, that the victim receives the support they need, and that we send a clear message—domestic violence will not be tolerated," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
