Girls Court overview presented in MJI webinar

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Services will present a webinar on “Juvenile Justice Specialty Court: Kent County’s Girls Court” Friday, May 23, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

This session will provide an overview of Kent County’s Girls Court, a specialty court designed to support at-risk girls involved in the juvenile justice system. Attendees will earn how Girls Court addresses the unique needs of young women (many who are at risk of human trafficking or have been trafficked) through mentorship, therapy, weekly group contact, and structured community interventions/prosocial opportunities.

Speaking at the webinar will be Presiding Girls Court Judge Patricia D. Gardner; Haley Stone, Girls Court probation officer; Zorimar Johnson, Girls Court supervisor; and Alison Whittaker, Girls Court group facilitator.

This webinar qualifies for 1.00 CJE credit hour in Judicial Practice and Related Areas.
