In honor of Mental Health Awareness Week, Oakland County Michigan Works! is hosting a free, virtual workshop to help employers build a supportive workplace environment for workers impacted by substance use disorders. “Supporting Workers in Recovery” will be offered online Monday, May 12, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom.
On average, employers save up to $8,466 per year by retaining/hiring employees in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). By adopting a Recovery Friendly Workplace model, organizations foster a safe environment encouraging both positivity and productivity for workers affected by substance use.
Given that 76 percent of adults with a SUD are active in the workforce, the Michigan Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) Initiative has designed a comprehensive program to help employers build environments that support employees in recovery by reducing stigma and providing resources.
Employers looking to remove barriers for employees in recovery are encouraged to attend the workshop which offers:
• Introduction to the Michigan Recovery Friendly Workplace
• Overview of recovery-friendly practices and their benefits
• Step-by-step strategy on how to become a designated Michigan Recovery Friendly Workplace
• Practical implementation advice from David Richie, president and COO of designated RFW, Mission Restaurant Group
