Bloomfield Township announces Special Assessment Deferment Program

Bloomfield Township residents can now apply for the Special Assessment Deferment Program (SADP). This new initiative is designed to help qualifying homeowners by deferring their annual water/sewer or road special assessment. This program does not waive or forgive the assessments, but delays their payments until they are in a better financial situation; or certain conditions trigger payment such as refinancing or selling the home.  Deferments can be made for up to ten years and the Township will place a lien on your property to ensure repayment of the deferred amounts.

Township Supervisor Mike McCready and Township Treasurer Michael Schostak discussed the SADP in depth on “Bloomfield In Focus.”

Schostak stated, “we saw a need to provide assistance to our residents that required help.” He added, “it’s about being frugal with our taxpayer resources but in a way that can benefit our residents.”

To learn more about the program and find an application, visit www.bloomfieldtwp.org/sadp, contact the Assessing Department at 248-433-7710, or email assessor@bloomfieldtwp.org.
Applications must be submitted by June 30 and must include a current tax return, a personal financial statement, and three months of bank statements from all of your accounts.  Additional documentation may be required.

Applicants will be notified by September 15 and will have the option to appeal if not satisfied with the decision.
