Climax-Scotts Superintendent of Schools Doug Newington received a highly effective rating for the superintendents’ evaluation for the years 2023-2025.
The evaluation has been performed by an outside professional, however C-S School Board President Sue Reichert said that person has retired.
Reichert said last summer she received training to perform the evaluation, which was done using the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) format this year.
She said Newington’s rating was a 2.97 out of 3.0.
The school board president said some highlights under Newington’s leadership include the current bond project, enhanced communication, adding in new resources for parents and the community such as Eventlink, and many other technological enhancements which she said the district has received great parent feedback on.
She adds M-Step math and ELA is showing growth over last year, and NWEA is showing more growth than other schools. Student enrollment is showing a consistent growth for the last few years.
“As a board we recognize the strength that Mr. Newington brings to our district and applaud his commitment to us,” said Reichert.
Reichert adds she will be meeting with Newington in the near future to review his contract. Newington was hired by the C-S School Board in 2009 after former C-S Superintendent Dr. Geoffrey Balkam was killed in an accident.
