Custody, parenting time investigation myths discussed

The Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI) in collaboration with the Friend of the Court Bureau is pleased to provide a sixth webinar in a series planned to address misconceptions/myths in friend of the court (FOC) related matters. “Custody and Parenting Time Investigation Myths” will be presented online Thursday, July 24, from 9 to 10 a.m.

Friends of the Court are required to conduct a custody and/or parenting time investigation and report when ordered by the court. The report must include analysis of the child custody factors found in MCL 722.23. The report must also include a custody and parenting time recommendation.

This webinar will provide information on how FOC investigators can complete a timely report, discuss interviewing of children, identify issues that are not in dispute as well as overlapping factors, and conducting outside interviews to assist the family, attorneys, and the court to resolve a custody and/or parenting time dispute.

Speaking at the webinar will be Dr. Timothy Cole, management analyst, Friend of the Court Bureau, State Court Administrative Office, Michigan Supreme Court.
