Doctor convicted of aggravated indecent exposure

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Stephen Mason, a 54-year-old Detroit doctor, was convicted yesterday of aggravated indecent exposure and assault on an elderly woman he befriended on Facebook.

On Wednesday, September 10,  after a two-day trial conducted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mark Laws, a Macomb County Circuit Court jury deliberated for one hour before convicting Mason of the following charges:

• Aggravated Indecent Exposure, a 2-year felony
• Assault or Assault and Battery, a 93-day misdemeanor

Mason was also charged with a Habitual Offender – Second Offense Notice, which is an aggravating sentencing factor. Mason will be sentenced on Thursday, October 30, at 8:30 a.m. before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Toia.

Mason befriended the 76-year-old woman on Facebook. Mason and the victim met face-to-face for the first time on Thursday, August 1, 2024, when Mason drove her home from a hair appointment. The victim invited Mason into her residence for a Coke. While in her living room, Mason made sexual advances toward her but she rejected him. After being rebuffed, Mason masturbated in front of her.

“This conviction reaffirms the principle that no one is above the law. The defendant’s criminal conduct against a 76-year-old victim was a grave violation of both the law and human dignity. Regardless of one’s professional status or standing in the community, those who exploit or prey upon the elderly will be held fully accountable. Our office remains committed to protecting vulnerable victims and upholding the rule of law without exception,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
