Presented in partnership by the Criminal Defense Resource Center of the State Appellate Defender Office and the Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System, the “2025 Appellate Writing Workshop” was conducted Wednesday through Friday, September 3-5, at the Detroit offices of SADO. Among those speaking at the workshop were (left to right) Washington State Office of Public Defense Supervising Attorney Travis Stearns, SADO Director Marilena David, SADO Criminal Defense Resource Center Manager Kathy Swedlow, Washington Appellate Project Staff Attorney Nancy Collins, Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System (MAACS) Deputy Administrator Patricia Maceroni, MAACS Administrator Keeley Blanchard, MAACS Litigation Support Counsel Stephanie Farkas.
MAACS Roster attorneys and SADO assistant defenders attended the in-person 3-day writing workshop designed for appellate attorneys. The workshop offered a mix of plenary, panel, and small group brainstorming and writing sessions.
