On Monday, Betsy K. McIntyre, 69, of Irons, was sentenced by Lake County Probate Judge David Glancy in the 27th Circuit Court in Lake County to 20 to 40 years’ incarceration after pleading guilty to one count of Second-Degree Murder in August, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. McIntyre was charged by the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with one count of First-Degree murder for the stabbing death of her husband.
“I hope this sentence brings some measure of justice for the victim’s family,” Nessel said. “As attorney general, my office has consistently stepped in to support counties during times of vacancies.
Without this assistance, prosecutions would stall, murderers would walk free, and victims would be denied justice. This work is only possible because of the resources provided through our budget, and any shutdown or drastic cuts would take that away from Michigan residents when they need it most.”
The Department of Attorney General began managing and supporting prosecutorial functions in Lake County following the resignation of the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney in early June. The Department will continue to support prosecutorial functions in Lake County until the prosecuting attorney vacancy is filled or until October 1 in the event of a state government shutdown or significant budget cuts affecting the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
