Walter Goldsmith, 89, of Bloomfield Hills, died October 12.
Goldsmith was born in Detroit and grew up in Mt. Clemens where he graduated high school. He went on to attend the University of Michigan where he joined the Sammy (Sigma Alpha Mu) fraternity and made lifelong friends there. After graduation from U of M, Goldsmith went on to attend law school at Wayne State University. A Life Master in bridge, he was a brilliant attorney, a decades long fan of Detroit area sports with an enduring passion for the University of Michigan football team.
Goldsmith is survived by his wife of 38 years of Sherry Goldsmith; children Susan Goldsmith, Ellen (Sam Levitt) Goldsmith, Mark (the late Katlyn) Ruda, and Michael Ruda; grandchildren Harrison and Davis Finney, Jacob, Zach, and Rachel Levitt, and Benjamin Ruda; sister-in-law Judy Goldsmith; and neices Meryl Goldsmith and Lindsey (Mark Weiss) Goldsmith-Weiss.
Funeral services took place Thursday, October 16, at the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield. The family suggests that those who wish to further honor the memory of Walter Goldsmith may do so by making a contribution to any Jewish charity.
