Galentine’s book club
The Women’s Bar Association, Oakland County Region of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, along with the Wayne County region of WLAM hosted a “Galentine’s Day Book Club” on Thursday, February 19, at Mother Handsome in Oak Park. To celebrate Galentine’s Day and Black History Month, a large group gathered to discuss “Honey & Spice,” the debut novel by Bolu Babalola which centers on a young Black British woman who has no interest in love and unexpectedly finds herself caught up in a fake relationship with the man she warned her girls about. Galentine’s Day was created by fictional character Leslie Knope on the TV series “Parks and Recreation” as a holiday for ladies celebrating ladies, typically celebrated on February 13 – the day before Valentine’s Day.
