On Thursday, March 19, employees of the Bloomfield Township Engineering and Environmental Services Department (EESD), along with representatives from Hubbell, Roth, and Clark Inc. (HRC), were awarded Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA).
The APWA Public Works Project of the Year Award was established to promote excellence in the management, administration, and implementation of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer, and the contractor who work together to complete public works projects.
At the ceremony, HRC’s Christopher Ross and Bloomfield Township’s EESD Director Corey Almas gave an overview of the award-winning South Bloomfield Highlands Project.
Almas said, “The South Bloomfield Highlands Water Main Project stands as a significant achievement, providing essential improvements to approximately 209 homes that had been facing poor water quality and diminishing fire protection due to an aging and failing community water well distribution system that had exceeded its useful life. The successful completion of this project reflects a strong collaborative effort among multiple Township departments, our elected officials, the Board of Trustees, our consulting engineers (HRC), and the contractor, Pamar Enterprises. Their combined expertise, coordination, and commitment were instrumental in delivering a reliable and sustainable water infrastructure solution for the community.”
The scope of the project included abandoning the existing water mains and wells and replacing them with new public water mains, as well as installing new hydrants and valves. The project included the installation of approximately 14,450 feet of water main. This included the installation of new 1-inch diameter water service lines from the water main to the property line and the installation of a new stop box for each property.
