Huddleston sworn in as newest Probate Court judge

Judge Nicole Sophia Calhoun Huddleston was sworn in by Judge Kameshia D. Gant to serve as an Oakland County Probate Court judge. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer appointed Huddleston to the bench in early April to fill a vacancy on the Oakland County Probate bench. Huddleston will sit in Courtroom 1F of the Probate Court located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac.

Prior to joining the bench, Huddleston was the founder and managing attorney of Huddleston Law PLLC where she practiced family law, probate matters, and civil litigation. Before founding her firm, Huddleston served as Managing Director of the Detroit Justice Center’s Legal Services and Advocacy Practice. In that role, she led a team of attorneys and legal support staff dedicated to addressing the systemic impacts of mass incarceration. She oversaw direct legal representation for formerly incarcerated and court-involved individuals across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties, as well as broader legal system reform initiatives involving litigation, legislative advocacy, and community education.

“My colleagues and I congratulate Judge Huddleston on her appointment to the Oakland County Probate Court and we are pleased to welcome her to the bench,” stated Chief Judge Jennifer Callaghan.  “Her breadth of legal experience and dedication both to the law and the community has prepared her well for her new role as a member of the judiciary.
We look forward to her joining our court in service to the citizens of Oakland County.”

Huddleston earned her law degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2014 and her Bachelor of Arts from Oakland University. While in law school, she served on the Moot Court Board of Advocates and as vice president of the Business Law Association. She also completed judicial internships with Judge Victoria Roberts and Judge Marianne Battani of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and Judge Helene White of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
