Exercise is vital for older adults as it helps maintain mobility, strength, and overall health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Regular physical activity also supports mental well-being, improving mood and cognitive function, which enhances quality of life and independence.
Township Senior Services Director Christine Tvaroha shares, “Exercise activates powerful changes in the brain, supporting memory, focus, and long-term brain health.”
Currently, Senior Services offers more than 60 group fitness classes, with eligibility starting at age 50. Additionally, residents with some Health Alliance Plans and SilverSneakers memberships may set up complimentary use of the fitness equipment and track.
To learn more about all of these programs, along with dates and times, visit Township Senior Services at www.bloomfieldtwpmi.gov/seniors. Township residents can now register for classes and events at My Active Center at https://myactivecenter.com. The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone with questions may call 248-723-3500.
