Wallace Handler
Wallace “Wally” Handler, 91, of West Bloomfield, died June 4.
Handler attended the University of Michigan Law School and graduated in 1959. He practiced law in the Creditor/Debtor Rights and Bankruptcy areas for 60 years, counseling business clients and individuals in the financial management of their companies and personal assets.
Since 1983, Handler was continually listed in the Creditors’ and Debtors’ Rights and Bankruptcy Sections of The Best Lawyers in America®. He had been awarded the ranking of Michigan “Super Lawyer,” by Thomson Reuters every year since 2006.
Handler was dedicated to giving back to his community and was actively involved in numerous committees of the Jewish Welfare Federation. He served as a member of the board of directors and president of the Congregation Shaarey Zedek and served in various other leadership positions continuously over the last 20 years. He was also a past member of the board of trustees of the Jewish Foundation of Detroit and the Home for
the Aged and a past member of the board of governors of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Handler is survived by his wife of 68 years of Marlene Handler; children Melissa (Richard Draheim) Handler, Howard (Wendy) Handler, and Meg Handler; grandchildren Rian (Adam) Ephraim and Eli Handler; great-grandchild of Gus Ephraim; siblings Stuart (Susan) Handler and Cheryl (David) Rosenthal; and his dedicated caregivers, Roz and Niecy.
A funeral service took place Sunday, June 7, at the Ira Kaufman Chapel.
