Association honors Trailblazers
The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association hosted its 32nd Annual Trailblazers Award and Scholarship Dinner, titled “Legacy in Motion: Honoring the Past and Inspiring the Future,” on Thursday, June 16, at The Mint at Michigan First Conference Center in Lathrup Village. Among those celebrating at the event were (left to right) Wayne County 36th District Court Judge Chastity Youngblood, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Adrienne G. Scruggs, Oakland County Probate Court Judge Nicole Huddleston, Straker President Dandridge Floyd, Straker Treasurer Vassal Johnson II, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kameshia Gant, Chris Camper, Michael Everett Hall, Renita Forrest, Tanisha Davis, and Straker Immediate Past President Mikai Green. The marquee event of the Straker Bar is used to honor outstanding individuals who have blazed the trail in the legal community and beyond. This year’s honorees included Michigan Supreme Court Justice Noah Hood, Michigan Supreme Court Fairness and Accountability Administrator Zenell Brown, and Sixteen42 Ventures Chairman and CEO Dennis Archer Jr. The ceremony is also the gateway to award the A. Kay Stanfield Spinks Law Student Scholarship to law students dedicated to public service in Michigan and the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Advocacy Competition scholarship to high school juniors and seniors.
