The Index, fittingly, also sports a long and distinguished publishing history, tracing its roots to 1872 when the weekly newspaper serving Homer and the surrounding Calhoun County community in West Michigan was founded.
Upon the purchase of The Index, which publishes each Wednesday, The Detroit Legal News Publishing owns and operates 12 newspapers across Michigan, including its flagship daily, The Detroit Legal News.
Other newspapers in The Legal News group include The Oakland County Legal News, The Macomb County Legal News, The Washtenaw County Legal News, The Flint-Genesee County Legal News, The Jackson County Legal News, The Ingham County Legal News, The Grand Rapids Legal News, The Norton Lakeshore Examiner Muskegon County Legal News, The Climax Crescent, and The Zeeland Record.
“Detroit Legal News Publishing is proud to add The Homer Index to its family of publications in Michigan, and we are committed to continuing the newspaper’s longstanding tradition of serving the residents, businesses, and organizations of the Calhoun County community,” said Ban Ibrahim, publisher of the newspaper group and a board member of the Michigan Press Association (MPA).
The Detroit-based publishing company, which also includes its Inland Press subsidiary, is headed by President and CEO Bradley L. Thompson II, the fifth-generation of his family to be involved in a leadership role. Thompson, a past-president of the MPA, is the current president of the MPA Foundation, which supports quality community journalism in the state.
