Man pleads no contest to second-degree murder

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 52-year-old Luke Svacha, of Center Line, pleaded no contest to charges stemming from the February 2025 shooting death of 24-year-old Jajuan Marls.

On February 1, 2025, Svacha shot and killed Marls at the Extended Stay America hotel in Sterling Heights, Mich.

On Monday, July 27, 2026, Svacha appeared before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Anthony R. Servitto, where he pleaded no contest to Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. As part of a sentencing agreement, Svacha will be sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Svacha is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Servitto on Wednesday, September 9,  at 8:30 a.m.

“A life was taken far too soon, and this plea ensures accountability for the defendant’s actions,” said Prosecutor Lucido. “Our office remains committed to delivering justice for the victim and his family.”
