Damon Bentley, 28, of Detroit, was sentenced on September 11 by Judge Williams-Claybourne of the 3rd Circuit Court to a total of 27-50 years’ incarceration, after being convicted by a Wayne County jury on charges related to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Westland man, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. He was found guilty in July of one count of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Felony Firearm, and one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
“While there is no conviction that can alleviate the grief felt by his family and loved ones, I am grateful we were able to secure justice for those mourning this young man’s death,” said Nessel at the time of the conviction. “My office remains committed to prosecuting and holding accountable those who commit senseless violent crimes.”
On May 4, 2025, Bentley shot at the victim eight times and killed him outside the Grand Lofts apartment complex in Southwest Detroit. Bentley was charged by the Department of Attorney General in May 2025.
