Oakland County Michigan Works! on Monday announced the opening of a new center in Southfield, located at 26777 Central Park Blvd, Suite 255S.
“Our new, larger location in Southfield will continue to serve our businesses and job seekers in the communities surrounding Southfield and Oak Park as we’ve done for many years,” said Oakland County Executive David Coulter. “We’re committed to offering best-in-class support that connects employers with skilled talent and helps people secure new career opportunities.”
The new center will be operated by Gesher Human Services, headquartered in Southfield.
“I want to thank our teams in Southfield and Oak Park for their dedication to their customers and professionalism during this transition,” said Jennifer Llewellyn, director of Oakland County Michigan Works! “This change enables us to achieve necessary cost savings and operate more efficiently, plus provide more services virtually. The new center also is centrally and strategically located in the county, ready to support our customers throughout the area.”
Gesher Human Services currently operates the Oakland County Michigan Works! Waterford location and also delivers workforce development programs in Macomb and Wayne Counties.
“Oakland County has been a great partner for the last seven years, and we look forward to delivering workforce services to more individuals in the county,” said Paul Blatt, Gesher Human Services CEO. “We’ve got a fantastic, experienced team in our new Southfield center, and they are excited to welcome the public and connect more people to training and workforce opportunities.”
The new location replaces two Oakland County Michigan Works! centers that permanently closed over the past few months, located in Southfield and Oak Park. Businesses and job seekers previously serviced by the closed centers have been transferred to the new Southfield location. The decision to consolidate the two centers was heavily influenced by year-over-year federal and state funding reductions to workforce development programs.
Oakland County Michigan Works! operates centers in Novi, Pontiac, Southfield, Troy and Waterford, where they assist more than 105,000 job seekers annually. Services include career coaching, interviewing and job search workshops, placement assistance, training courses and job trend information.
The centers also assist more than 1,000 employers seeking help with talent recruitment, apprenticeship programs, job fairs, candidate pre-screening, hiring and training support, layoff support and labor market data.
Staff are available in-person or by virtual appointment to work one-on-one with job seekers to build their resumes, prepare for job interviews and help address other needs.
