Firm presents donation to foundation

On August 20, Trustees from the Federal Bar Foundation of Detroit, a non-profit organization associated with the Eastern District of Michigan Bar Association, accepted a donation of “cy pres” funds from the Bloomfield Hills law firm of Fink Bressack in the amount of $185,000.

“Cy pres” awards allow unclaimed settlement funds from class-action lawsuits, probate matters or other court cases to be distributed to charitable organizations that are most likely to benefit or pursue the interests of the class. The funds were from six different lawsuits handled by the Fink Bressack law firm.

This donation is the fourth donation received from the Fink Bressack law firm to the Federal Bar Foundation of Detroit. Donations from the Fink Bressack law firm to the Federal Bar Foundation of Detroit have totaled in excess of $500,000.

The funds will be used by the Federal Bar Foundation of Detroit to promote justice and support law related agencies and programs in the Metropolitan Detroit area.

On hand for the check presentation August 20 at the U.S. District Courthouse in Detroit were (left to right) EDMI Bar Association President Lauren Mandel; Susan Fairchild, trustee Federal Bar Foundation of Detroit; Nathan Fink from the law firm of Fink Bressack; and Jeffrey Appel, trustee of the Federal Bar Foundation of Detroit.
