Attorneys to receive Warrior of Justice awards from Legal Aid and Defender
Attorneys Harold Gurewitz and Walter Pookrum will receive Warrior of Justice awards from Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD) during its inaugural Laddys pro bono service awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 3.
Gurewitz, of the law firm Gurewitz & Raben PLC, will be honored for his years of service representing indigent defendants in U.S. District Court. He has also served several years as a LAD board of directors member and officer.
"Mr. Gurewitz has performed exceptional service to his clients, the court and our community," said Deierdre L. Weir, president and CEO of LAD.
Weir cited Pookrum, of the Law Firm of Walter Pookrum, for his years of service representing indigent defendants in both state and federal courts and for his years of service as a LAD board member.
The Nov. 3 event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the A. Albert Taubman Center for Design Services at the College for Creative Studies, 485 W. Milwaukee St.
Tickets for the Laddys awards ceremony are $50 and are tax deductible. Tables of eight are available. Entrance to the College for Creative Studies is located at the corner of W. Milwaukee Street and Cass Avenue in the former Argonaut Building. Free parking is available adjacent to the college.
