Man sentenced in go-cart crash that injured girl

PONTIAC (AP) -- A man who was driving a go-cart last year that was hit by a car in Pontiac, seriously injuring a 6-year-old girl riding with him, has been sentenced to up to 10 years behind bars. The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports 35-year-old John Culvahouse was sentenced last Thursday to one to 10 years after pleading no contest to a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing injury. Sierra Thomason was hospitalized following the June crash with broken legs and a fractured skull. Culvahouse told the newspaper after the crash that he took a large portion of the blame. Police say the go-cart didn't have headlights and both Culvahouse and Sierra were without helmets. The crash happened near Culvahouse's home. His injuries included a broken arm.
