Ex-Detroit mayor predicts no more prison time

DETROIT (AP) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick predicts that he's "not going to spend another day" in prison as he faces a federal public corruption trial later this year. Kilpatrick's remark came during an interview with WWJ-AM that was broadcast Wednesday. Kilpatrick, who now lives in Grand Prairie, Texas, also plans to answer questions Aug. 16 during a meeting of members of the Detroit chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. Kilpatrick's trial is scheduled for September and he says he's "ready for this fight." The case also involves Kilpatrick's father, Bernard Kilpatrick, and others. All have pleaded not guilty. Kilpatrick was released from a Michigan prison in August 2011 after serving just over a year for violating probation in the 2008 criminal case. Published: Thu, Aug 2, 2012
