Courtroom dispute ends with 2 hurt, 5 arrested
HARPER WOODS (AP) -- Police say a fight that started during a Detroit-area court hearing for two men charged in a 2010 fatal shooting ended with two injuries and five arrests.
The fight happened Wednesday during the court hearing in Harper Woods for Demetrius Edwards and Bryant Royster. They're charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 30-year-old Cedell Leverett of Southfield in a parking lot outside Eastland mall.
Police say about 80 people turned out at the hearing, including supporters of Leverett's family as well as some backing the men who are charged. A verbal dispute began and spilled into the nearby lobby of the city's police department, where the fight escalated.
The courtroom was cleared of spectators following the disturbance.
