Michigan-based businesses and organizations have a chance at $10,000 in cash and services as nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Medical Main Street “INNO-VATOR of the Year.”
The award, now in its fourth year, recognizes a Michigan business or organization that has created a device, technology or process which significantly impacts the medical device, biotech or life science fields, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said.
“Many life-changing devices and technologies are being created by the talented engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs in the Medical Main Street region,” Patterson said. “The INNO-VATOR of the Year celebrates achievement. I’m pleased we are able to add some incentives in terms of cash and services for the winning entry.”
The award will be presented on Sept. 16 during Medical Main Street’s INNO-VENTION Reception at Petruzzello’s Banquet Hall in Troy. The deadline to submit an entry is Aug. 31. Application instructions and reception registration can be found at MedicalMainStreet.com.
The winner of the 2015 INNO-VATOR of the Year Award receives:
• $1,000 cash.
• Recognition at the Medical Main Street INNO-VENTION reception.
• Promotions through Oakland County media channels, including a customized video and recognition in the county’s PROSPER electronic newsletter.
• Business plan and marketing plan assistance through the Oakland County One Stop Shop Business Center.
• Funding consultation through OU Inc.
• A free one-year membership in Automation Alley.
The 2014 INNO-VATOR of the Year was OcuSciences Inc. of Ann Arbor. Its Retinal Metabolic AnalysisTM (RMA) is a proprietary, ocular imaging technique that is a non-invasive, rapid biomarker for measuring the damage to retinal tissue due to diabetes, macular degeneration and glaucoma. The RMA technology provides a means to detect disease processes several years earlier than current clinical methods and before irreversible structural alterations due to cell death become visible in the retina.
Medical Main Street, powered by Oakland County, is a collaboration of world renowned hospitals, universities and health care and life science companies in Southeast Michigan. Patterson created the initiative in 2008 to harness the strength of the area's health care, life science, research and development, education and manufacturing assets.
