Events offered as part of firm's Canada-U.S. Platform

Dickinson Wright PLLC, a full-service business law firm specializing in cross-border counsel, will be sponsoring several leading events in the Detroit-Windsor metropolitan area to support the vibrant Canada-U.S. trade in the region.

“As one of the leading law firms specializing in cross-border counsel, it is important that Dickinson Wright actively support and participate in those organizations that are working to increase and improve the Canada-U.S. trade and investment partnership,” says Daniel D. Ujczo, Dickinson Wright’s Canada-U.S. Platform coordinator. “The 2015 NASCO Continental Reunion and the 2015 Great Lakes Women’s Business Conference provide significant opportunities for our clients to network with other business leaders who are on the front line of the cross-border relationship and for our attorneys to provide insight to the laws that govern the important North American economic space.”

Dickinson Wright will serve as a sponsor at the 2015 NASCO Continental Reunion at Caesars Windsor on September 28-30 that will draw leaders from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.  The firm will host the Welcome & Networking Reception on Monday, September 28, and Ujczo will participate in two panels throughout the conference: “Navigating North American Border Facilitation” and “Workforce Training & Certification.” In contrast to recent political discussions regarding building walls along North America’s borders, these panels will address effective and practical ways to ensure continental security and prosperity.  Ujczo also will address potential solutions to business immigration and NASCO’s exciting tri-national workforce pilot, which will be launched later this year.

Dickinson Wright will also be serving as a Bronze Sponsor at the 2015 Great Lakes Women’s Business Conference on September 29-30, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Dickinson Wright attorneys Wendy Hulton and Kim Stagg will participate in the first ever joint meeting of the women’s business enterprise groups from Canada and the Great Lakes.

Additionally, the firm will host the “Removing the Fear Factor: Going Global and Developing Border Strategic Relationships” workshop. Dickinson Wright attorneys Anna Maiuri, M. Kimberly Stagg, Suzanne Sukkar, and Brenda Swick will discuss the key issues encountered by companies seeking to engage in international business.

They will address issues, such as, protecting intellectual property, methods of distribution and corporate structuring, customs and tax compliance issues, and immigration. This session will provide a step-by-step approach in an effort to separate the myth from reality in international business, all with an eye toward revealing the true opportunities to be gained from cross-border activity and relationships.

Dickinson Wright’s U.S.-Canada team consists of a group of highly-trained, dedicated lawyers who are at the forefront of working with businesses and governments to navigate legal issues surrounding the largest two-way trading relationship in the world. Dickinson Wright’s cross-border expertise in corporate structuring, financing, and taxation – coupled with the firm’s unrivalled regulatory, real estate, intellectual property, and distribution expertise – makes Dickinson Wright a leading provider of cross-border legal services.
