On Wednesday, Feb. 3, the Environmental Law Society at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus hosted the panel discussion “The Reality Careers in Environmental Law.” Among those taking part in the program were (left to right) student Marceya Clark; attorney Rick Braun, chair of the Oakland County Bar Association’s Energy, Sustainability, and Environmental Law Committee; panelists Todd Schebor of Dykema Gossett, Phillip Grashoff of Kotz Sangster, and Kyle Jones of Fiat Chrysler U.S.; WMU-Cooley Professor Mark Cooney, program moderator and Environment Law Society advisor; and students Jacqueline Snyder-Powdhar, Marie Valente, Linda Isho, Nehemiah Williams, and Jamia Davis. The panelists discussed their environmental law careers and how the field has changed over the last decade due to new environmental regulations. “You don’t necessarily get a job right out of law school as an environmental lawyer,” said Grashoff. “You can position yourself to grow into the practice by conducting informational interviews with leaders in the field and firms that have an environmental practice group.”
