University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and Windsor Law Canadian & American Dual J.D. students Amanda Iarusso and Justin Smith, alongside their partners Peter Valente and Sean Reginio, competed against law students from the University of Toronto, Osgoode Hall, and McGill University in the fourth annual Warren K. Winkler Class Action Moot Competition in Toronto on February 25. All four team members performed extremely well and received many compliments from judges, comprised of practitioners from both the plaintiff and defense class action bar and in-house counsel.
In the final round, Iarusso and Smith competed against a team from Osgoode before a panel of judges comprised of retired Chief Justice Warren Winkler, Ontario Court of Appeal Judge Pardu, and Superior Court Justice Perell. They ultimately won the finals.
Iarusso also earned the second place Oralist Award.
