State withdraws from two more federal cases

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed motions Wednesday to withdraw Michigan from two federal cases. Including these cases, the state has removed itself from 26 federal cases since Nessel took office January 1.

- Americans for Prosperity Foundation v Becerra (Ninth Circuit, 16-55727 & 16-55786)

Michigan is withdrawing from this case because the state does not support the Americans for Prosperity Foundation's argument that it should be able to withhold and keep confidential the names of its donors.

- Hand v Scott (Eleventh Circuit, 18-11388)

Michigan is withdrawing from the following case because it does not support the State of Florida's discriminatory practice of limiting voting rights.

"These cases simply do not reflect what Michigan stands for," said Nessel. "We support fairness and transparency. There is no justification for us to continue to be a party to these cases."
