OBITUARY

George W. Gregory

Attorney George W. Gregory passed away Tuesday, January 4.

Gregory was a shareholder at Kemp Klein with more than 30 years of experience in estate planning, tax, and business law.

Before his career as an attorney, Gregory was a revenue agent with the IRS and a professor at Wayne State University School of Business where he taught tax courses. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army.

He graduated from Wayne State University School of Law in 1980. A member of the Oakland County Bar Association since 1989 and a life fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation, he was a past chair of the Employee Benefits Committee, an active past chair of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan, and chair of the Probate and Estate Planning Council.

Gregory was one of the drafters of the Michigan Estate Tax Act, which repealed the Michigan Inheritance Act. During his years in practice, he was the recipient of many awards and a strong contributor to the legal community.

Gregory is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his son, Eric; and his granddaughter, Rosalind.

Due to the intensity of COVID cases, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
