Event honors patriots

Patriot Week hosted its 9th Annual Patrick Henry Event on Thursday, March 24, at the San Marino Club in Troy. Taking part in the anniversary celebration of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” speech were (left to right) Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren, Patriot Week co-founder; former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Maura Corrigan; Leah Warren, Patriot Week co-founder; Patriot of the Year honoree Robert Norton, Hillsdale College general counsel; Patriot of the Year honorees Courtney Parish and Joshua Parrish, co-founders of VetLife; and Patriot of the Year honoree Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian Zahra.

(Left) Patriot Week co-founder Leah Warren re-enacted Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” speech during the dinner. When she was 10 years old, Warren and her father, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren, co-founded Patriot Week to renew the spirit of the United States of America by celebrating the founding First Principles, key documents and speeches, founding fathers, and other great patriots.  Patriot week is celebrated September 11 (the anniversary of the terrorist attacks) and September 17 (the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution – Constitution Day). (Right) Justice Brian Zahra was honored to accept a Patriot of the Year Award.  Zahra was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder to the Michigan Supreme Court on January 14, 2011. In 2021, he was appointed chair of the Justice for All Commission, which is a diverse group of state leaders and access to justice advocates. He also serves as the Supreme Court’s liaison to Michigan Business Courts, which currently operate within 17 circuit courts.
